The Healing Art of Shamanic Drumming Courses

Five Courses on the Healing Art of Shamanic Drumming – from Introduction to Teacher

This Course is for everyone who loves the shamanic drum. Whether you are a therapist, an energy healer, or just in love with the magic of the Earth – shamanic drumming can elevate your practice.

The shaman’s drum is much more than a drum. It is much more than a musical instrument and  healing tool. The shamanic drum is both the gateway and the physical manifestation through which enlightened spirit beings can perform healings.

The shamanic drum has a special resonance that is part of its healing capacity. This resonance is the heartbeat of Mother Earth. The drum sings the song of the Great Mother whose healing power nurtures all. With the help of the song of the drum, the song of the spirits, and the song of the drummer, a sacred vibration is created, through which shamans heal.

The Shamanic Drumming Courses

These courses focus on the Healing Art of the Shamanic Drum. The Courses have been designed to support everyone who wishes to work with the spiritual and holistic power of the drum in a shamanic way, either as part of another healing modality or on its own. Shamanic drumming can be beautifully incorporated into many other holistic healing practices or it can constitute an individual drumming healing session.

The Shamanic Drumming Teacher – Fotoula Foteini Adrimi

Fotoula Foteini Adrimi has worked professionally with the shamanic drum for over 20 years, both as a Shamanic Practitioner and as a Shamanic Teacher. She has studied shamanism and shamanic drumming with both western and indigenous shamans.

Fotoula's shamanic studies include:

  • Shamanic Teacher training on classic core shamanism with Sandra Ingerman. Fotoula is also an active member of the Global Shamanic Teachers network, a member of the Council of Elders and a member of the Shaman’s Directory

  • Indigenous Himalayan Shamanism – Since 2014 Fotoula has been training with indigenous shaman and lineage holder Bhola Banstola and she co-organises Bhola’s workshops on Himalayan shamanism in Scotland.

Why is it necessary to train to drum shamanically?

Training to drum shamanically.jpg

If you wish to work shamanically with the drum, it is not enough to play the instrument as you feel guided. The shamanic drum is a receptacle for spirits, a sacred being in itself. Therefore, there are important steps to take to unlock its healing power and light.

Over the years, Fotoula has observed many people answering a deeper calling to shamanic drumming. However, without training, there can be many misconceptions that block and hinder their work.

For example:

  • Sometimes people think that in order to remove spiritual blocks from the body, one should drum as loud and as quickly as possible. This can be uncomfortable for their client and, in many cases, it can also empower (or anger), the stubborn energy they are trying to shift, and create the opposite effect.

  • Some people can believe that there are no specific rhythms for shamanic drum healing, and it is ok to drum as it comes to them. However, around the world shamans have specific ways to drum for healing, including songs for the elements – important spirits that provide the building blocks for our physical reality. Certain drumming rhythms are important for releasing spirits and for welcoming our own spirit back to the physical world. Shamanic drumming has a beginning, a middle and an end, and unless this is observed, clients may feel dazed, disorientated, or suffer dissociation.

  • Another misconception is that after finishing drumming, no further work is required. However, there is a lot more to do to integrate the healing, and bring the client back to the present moment.

The Art of Shamanic Drumming – an Empowering Practice

The art of shamanic drumming

Every aspect of drumming has a purpose and it is part of the human experience of death, birth, and the cycle of life. The course explains the meaning behind the different types of drumming, from the healing and shamanic perspective.

Shamanic drumming can be a wonderful and empowering practice. Fotoula’s tutelary spirits have asked her to teach the art of shamanic drumming, which she has been entrusted with and has been practising for over 20 years. The teaching spirits have asked her to share the ancient wisdom as a therapeutic modality. They said that this knowledge is needed in our world, and that the people who are called to work with the shamanic drum should be empowered to do so in a way that allows them to help others safely.

The Shamanic Drum

Traditionally the drum is built with purposefully chosen wood, from a tree selected ceremoniously. There are also different types of hides used. The tradition tells us that one should use the hide from a wild animal that is from the land (i.e. not imported). This hide should be ethically sourced. In Scotland the most appropriate animal is wild deer, ethically killed, and the hide traditionally treated. If this is not possible or practical, then one should use the hide from a domesticated animal that lives on the land, such as goat or sheep etc. However, according to the tradition, these hides have lesser power.

Traditional shamanic drum

Of course synthetic drums can be used, but they may need extra work, as they do not carry the spirit of an animal. However, no matter what type of drum you have, the power can come as a response to the person’s calling.

If you already have a drum, that is great and there is no need to purchase another one. if you wish to have a traditional drum and beater, you can get in touch with us and we can recommend practitioners (we do not make any commission from recommendations, we just wish to work with people who are ethical and follow the traditional ways). The same for the beater.

Please Be Aware:

These courses are based on the healing power of the drum alone. They are not a shamanic practitioner course. Fotoula is not sharing soul retrieval, extraction, psychopomping, death and dying through these courses.

Moreover, the courses do not teach people how to run a shamanic, journeying or drumming circle where you guide people into a shamanic ceremony. In order to do this, people need to train as a shamanic practitioner, and receive an invitation from your helping spirits. Holding a shamanic drumming circle is very important and deep work, for which the indigenous shamans train for many years in order to provide a safe space for healing and transformation.
